Downtown Homeless

There are approximately 3000 homeless in the Metro Vancouver area. We have the power to help but why aren't we? It could be as simple as a toonie or a sandwich or some conversation about what they are going through and what they want. Was their homelessness a choice or were things simply too much to handle?

Turning Point

Another turning point

A fork stuck in the road

Time grabs you by the wrist

Directs you where to go

So make the best of this test

And don't ask why

It's not a question

But a lesson learned in time

CHORUS:

It's something unpredictable

But in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs

And still frames in your mind

Hang it on a shelf

Of good health and good time

Tattoos of memories

And dead skin on trial

For what it's worth

It was worth all the while

Faces of the Homeless

The faces of the homeless are all around us.

The outreach work performed by the Hope For Freedom Society provides a a fairly accurate estimation of the number of homeless in the Tri-Cities as it is based on day-to-day contact with homeless persons. In its first report on the homeless in the Tri-Cities, Hope For Freedom estimated there were 177 homeless persons over the period April – September 2006. A follow-up report estimated this number had dropped to 162 over the period October 2006 – March 2007. The most recent estimate provided by Hope For Freedom is 213 persons homeless in the Tri-Cities at the end of March 2008. For more information, refer to Tri-Cities Outreach & Advocacy Report 1 and Outreach & Advocacy Report 2

Here, we need your input to get people involved, to be interested in helping the homeless. Encourage people to follow this blog or join the FaceBook group "Help The Homeless". As always, your comments are appreciated.

Any Ideas?

There is lots that we could do to help the homeless. For example, in my film class, I am doing a short video that will include interviews with homeless people as well as other people just like you and me. But what questions should I ask. How can the questions work to raise awareness.

There are lots of people out there that need your, our support. What are you doing now or what do you think we could do to make a better tomorrow.

Video fromYouTube

We really need to prepare for the future if we want to eliminate homelessness in our lifetime. Because we have the power to eliminate homelessness. We are the children of the future and the future is now.
